Youth Programs
The strength of the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center was in its extensive educational and recreational programming for youth. The Hallie Q. put priority on young children and teens to prepare them for a successful future.
Activities for younger children focused on developing a solid foundation through nursery school, and providing services such as day care and wellness checks. Teens had a wide variety of activities, clubs, and programs to choose from. Among their choice were archery, drama club, judo lessons, dances, pagaents, and cookouts.
"At the Hallie, we learned to fill the gaps in American history--the gaps that told the part that black Americans played in the building of this country...the Hallie developed citizenship as it provided education, entertainment, and physical training..." Evelyn Fairbanks, Days of Rondo
