Hallie Q. Brown Community Center Today
The Hallie Q. Brown Community Center still exists today, although in a slightly different format. The building in which the Hallie is now located is called the Martin Luther King Center. After moving to this new location in 1972, it began servicing a wider area in the Summit-University neighborhood, which includes Rondo.
The mission and core values of Hallie, however, remain much the same as when it began:
"The mission of the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc is to improve the quality of life in our community by providing access to critical human services, fostering and promoting personal growth, and developing community leadership."
Although the freeway and subsequent displacement of families and breaking up of the Rondo neighborhood was an obstacle for the Hallie Q. Brown Community center, it has bounced back and is still taking an active role in the community it serves by focusing on youth, education, and civic-mindedness, as evidenced by its recent activities:
